DANCE EXAMINATIONS
We hold annual SFD (Southern Federation of Dance) & RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) examinations for students Grade 1 (6yrs and over). The students perform set exercises before a highly qualified external examiner at our studio in late July/early August. More information on these can be found at www.rad.org.au & at www.dancesfd.asn.au
Examinations help teach discipline, self confidence & commitment in the working towards, and the achievement of set goals. These are wonderful life skills and serve our students very well. Teachers work closely with students to assess entry with the majority of students participating. We strongly encourage all applicable students to sit exams regularly for the continued development of their progression as well as for the values of learning a strong work ethic, patience and dedication. All students participating in graded ballet exams from 2-7 are required to participate in a minimum of two classical ballet classes per week for a minimum of one year before each examination. Students preparing for major examinations are required to participate in three classical ballet classes per week for a minimum of one year before each examination. Students will receive a report, certificate and small trophy or medallion upon passing.
PRESENTATION EVENING
We hold a presentation evening for successful examination students at a selected venue in mid September. All examination students perform short sections from their examinations and will receive a report, certificate and small trophy or medal on stage.
MASTER CLASSES
Students sitting examinations will be offered the opportunity to take part in master classes for the SFD in May. These classes are run by the examiners of the styles displayed, and are a great source of extra confidence for students preparing to sit the exams.
COMPETITIONS
Selected students are invited to participate in performance troupes and solos in and around Melbourne. We have three aged performance troupes competing in various sections. These classes are an extra on top of the student’s normal classes and have certain pre requisites required for participation. Students will be offered solos after participating in a troupe for a year or more. This will be based upon the student’s discipline, commitment & work ethic.
OTHER PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Select groups are invited to perform regularly at events around Melbourne. Students have performed at Federation Square, Australian Open, Knox Festival, SFD combined school’s concert, LA, Hollywood and Disney Land.
